WCAG 2.1 AA target · Continuous improvement

Accessibility Statement

HCODX is committed to making every free browser-based tool on the site usable by everyone — including users of screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, voice control and other assistive technologies. We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA, ship dark and light themes, and treat accessibility as ongoing work rather than a finished state.

Effective: May 28, 2026 Last updated: May 28, 2026

1. Our commitment

HCODX provides a comprehensive set of free browser-based tools — calculators (financial, health, math, date, pets), code editors, online compilers, AI utilities, document viewers, formatters and many more — and we want every one of them to be usable by every visitor. There is no signup, no upload, no payment required to use any tool, which removes whole categories of accessibility friction up front.

Good-faith commitment: while we strive to conform to recognised accessibility standards, we acknowledge known limitations — particularly in complex editor interfaces and third-party libraries. We treat accessibility improvement as ongoing work, never as a finished state, and we welcome feedback from all users.

2. Standards we target

We aim to conform to the following accessibility standards on a best-effort basis:

  • WCAG 2.1 Level AA — Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (W3C)
  • Section 508 — U.S. federal electronic accessibility requirements
  • EN 301 549 — European standard for ICT accessibility

Current compliance status

  • WCAG 2.1 Level A: substantially compliant
  • WCAG 2.1 Level AA: partially compliant — ongoing improvements
  • Section 508: substantially compliant for static content; partially compliant for interactive editor features

3. Accessibility features

HCODX currently includes the following accessibility features across the site:

Keyboard navigation

Core features, search, filter chips, calculator inputs, and tool buttons are reachable and operable with keyboard only.

Screen reader support

ARIA labels on interactive elements; semantic HTML landmarks; descriptive button and link text.

Dark / light themes

Manual toggle and automatic prefers-color-scheme support. High-contrast palette in both themes.

Scalable text

Interface respects browser zoom up to 200% without horizontal scrolling on common viewports.

Alternative text

Descriptive labels on icons and non-decorative images; aria-hidden on purely decorative icons.

Visible focus indicators

Clear focus outlines on all interactive elements for keyboard users.

Skip links

Skip-to-content links on main pages so screen-reader and keyboard users can bypass navigation.

Semantic structure

Proper heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3), landmark regions (header / main / footer / nav), labeled form fields.

4. Known limitations

We are transparent about areas where accessibility is currently imperfect:

  • Code editor complexity: some advanced editor interactions (multi-cursor, drag-and-drop block selection) may require pointer input. Keyboard alternatives are provided for most common actions.
  • Third-party libraries: open-source libraries used in the editor and viewer tools (CodeMirror, Monaco, PDF.js, syntax-highlighting libraries) may have accessibility gaps we cannot fully control.
  • Live preview frame: the editor's live preview renders your HTML code; its accessibility depends on the code you write.
  • Dynamic content: some calculator and tool outputs update as you type; not all updates are currently announced via aria-live regions (improvement in progress).
  • Color usage: some interface elements use color as a primary indicator (e.g. "Healthy weight" green, "Obese" red badges in BMI results); text alternatives are provided where possible but may not cover every case.
  • Third-party advertisements: when ads load, their accessibility is governed by the advertising networks and is outside our control.

5. Supported assistive technologies

HCODX has been tested with, or is designed to support, the following assistive technologies. Reports of incompatibility with anything else are welcome.

Screen readers

  • NVDA (Windows) — recommended for Windows users; free
  • JAWS (Windows)
  • VoiceOver (macOS and iOS) — best with Safari on Apple platforms
  • TalkBack (Android)
  • Orca (Linux)

Other assistive technologies

  • Voice recognition software (Dragon NaturallySpeaking / Dragon Professional)
  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Browser magnification and zoom
  • High-contrast OS modes and Windows High Contrast Mode

Recommended browsers for best accessibility

  • Chrome 90+
  • Firefox 88+
  • Safari 14+ (best for VoiceOver on macOS/iOS)
  • Microsoft Edge 90+

6. Feedback and reporting barriers

We actively welcome accessibility feedback. If you encounter a barrier that prevents you from using any part of HCODX, please tell us — every report helps us prioritize the next round of improvements.

Accessibility contact: accessibility@hcodx.com

Subject line: Accessibility Issue — [brief description]

Response time: We aim to respond within 5 business days.

When reporting an issue, it helps a lot to include:

  • A description of the barrier you encountered
  • The URL of the page where you encountered it
  • Your browser, operating system, and assistive technology (e.g. "Chrome 124 + NVDA 2024.1 on Windows 11")
  • Steps to reproduce the issue
  • What you were trying to do

7. Ongoing improvement

We are committed to improving accessibility over time through:

  • Periodic manual testing with keyboard navigation and screen readers
  • Automated accessibility scanning during development (axe-core, Lighthouse)
  • Reviewing and addressing user-reported accessibility barriers
  • Monitoring updates to WCAG and related standards
  • Tracking accessibility across the full set of tools as we add new ones

Planned improvements

  • aria-live regions for dynamic calculator output and tool result updates
  • Enhanced keyboard navigation within the code editor
  • Expanded ARIA labelling across every calculator page
  • Regular accessibility review cycle (quarterly)
  • Reduced-motion preference support (prefers-reduced-motion) across animated UI

8. Educational and classroom use

HCODX is widely used for learning and teaching — web development, math, finance, science. Educators using HCODX in classroom settings should:

  • Assess each tool's suitability for their students' specific accessibility needs
  • Provide alternative instruction methods where HCODX cannot fully accommodate a student's needs
  • Contact us with specific classroom accessibility requirements — we will do our best to help

Users are solely responsible for determining whether this tool meets their specific needs. See our Terms of Service for the full liability disclaimer.

10. Resources

Our commitment: HCODX is committed to providing a usable coding and calculation environment for all users. While we cannot guarantee perfect accessibility, we take every reported barrier seriously and work continuously to improve.
