Everything the simple tool doesn't have
Fast AI model · plus a High model in dev
Fast portrait model (MODNet, 25 MB) for selfies and people — works on every device. A high-accuracy general model is in development, behind a coming-soon card.
Two AI models
Fast portrait model (MODNet, 25 MB, Apache 2.0) for selfies and people. High-accuracy general model (ISNet-General-Use via @imgly/background-removal, ~45 MB) for products, animals, hair, transparent edges, and complex scenes. Switch between them in the side panel.
Refine brush
After the AI runs, erase or restore foreground with an adjustable-size brush. Full undo/redo history. Hardness slider for soft or sharp edits.
Edge feather
Smooth the cutout boundary with a 0–20 px Gaussian blur on the alpha mask. No more "cut with scissors" look.
Color de-spill
Removes background color bleed from fringe pixels — the green-fringe-on-hair problem when shooting against a colored background.
Smart crop
Auto-crop to subject bounding box with adjustable padding. Plus output presets for Instagram, Amazon, eBay, and custom sizes.
Image background
Composite your cutout onto another photo with cover / contain / stretch / tile fit modes and an optional blur.
Gradient backgrounds
Linear or radial gradients with custom colors and angle — perfect for hero shots and product mockups.
Drop shadow
Soft realistic shadow with color, blur, opacity, and offset controls — generated from the alpha mask, not faked.

Frequently asked questions
The simple tool is one click and a download. The Pro editor adds: a manual refine brush (erase / restore with undo/redo), a higher-accuracy general-purpose model (RMBG-1.4) alongside the fast portrait one, edge feather and color de-spill to clean fringes, smart crop, image and gradient backgrounds, and a soft drop-shadow generator.
Fast (Portrait) — MODNet, ~25 MB, Apache 2.0. Best for selfies, headshots, and people.
High (General) — ISNet-General-Use via @imgly/background-removal, ~45 MB. Best for products, animals, complex objects, hair, and transparent edges.
Both run entirely on your device after a one-time download from a public CDN — no sign-in, no API key, no upload, no watermark.
It edits the alpha mask, not the underlying photo. Your original pixels stay untouched — the brush only controls which pixels are visible. You can undo or redo any number of strokes.
When the original background was strongly colored (a green screen, a blue sky), some of that color bleeds onto fringe pixels of your subject. De-spill detects those fringe pixels via the mask edges and pulls their color back toward neutral foreground tones.
No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser on first use and cached. Your photo is processed entirely on your device — no upload, no signup, no watermark.
